Sunset in the Lagos Harbor the night an Oktoberfest celebration was held at the Lagos Yacht Club. A band was flown in from Bavaria (Koenig Ludwig Musikanten) we had Bavarian beer (brewed in Nigeria), sausage, sauerkraut and the rest of the fixins. We had a fun time but had to wait a long time for food... which meant more drinking! We had fun!

Joanne and Ingo... Ingo made sure he had his big beer stein from home!
Ingo also made sure we pronounced the toast properly as he is one of our resident Germans.

Hi I know that your blog is for friends and family to keep updated on your life and adventures but I hope you don't mind me also following :). My boyfriend has been offered a job in Lagos (starting July 2010) and so we are still in the process of deciding whether it will be a good move. Were both young and eager for the adventure as I will have graduated by then aswell. Been trying to research a lot but honestly everything I've come across so far seems very scary and is putting me off going. We'd be in a compound so, aswell as being worried about crime and violence etc (which I keep hearing scarily!), I am also a little concerned about what there might be to do! Your blog has been really nice to see as it paints a very different picture from the constant negative I've been finding. Any advice or info about what these compounds are like would be great! otherwise just keep up the good blogging :)
The compounds are secure, with barb wire and 24 hour security. I live in an apartment complex, not a compound. I have never felt unsafe and I feel I have put myself in more "extreme" postions than most expats. We travel all over Nigeria but do have an armed guard with us (required by the company).
OK... maybe there was one time when there were men shouting and waving guns as I was walking in the dark to catch a boat... something I should not be doing anyway (walking at night)!
